300 Degrees – Talking Machines EP
March 13th, 2010
Not content with his recently unexpected 3-in-1 album release on Lithuanian label Sutemos and a barrage of releases on other labels, IJO makes a welcome debut at Cactus Island under guise of 300 Degrees.
Audrius Vaitiekunas 300 Degrees project focuses on the deep, snappy machine-driven rhythms, squelchy 303 riffs and acid basslines of early Detroit Techno and Acid House. Using the original machines that moulded the revolution in electronic music Audrius takes us on a full-on nostalgia trip, drawing influence
from the likes of Transmat, Network Records, early Aphex, WARP Records or any other decent Acid House and Detroit Techno classics you care to remember.
Recently Audrius received high praise from Mary Ann Hobbs on her Radio 1 show for his diverse, infectious styles of production, evidence of which you can find here in blissful abundance. ‘Talking Machines’ will take you back….into the future.
poborsk – alp
January 6th, 2009
following on from the superb ‘poladroid’ full-length from quiroga, cactus island rollout another old acquaintance into the digital arena: poborsk (nutty professor) who has released an ep with cactus island before and extends his catalogue further with this release,
‘alp’ is more glacial, more industrial and mechanical, more robust than anything we’ve heard from him in the past, poborsk weaves intricate sonic detail into the compositions and scatters fragments of sound randomly over the landscape. out right now on cactus island.
quiroga – poladroid
November 23rd, 2008
after some time a new release is upon us, this time in the form of the one-man band from italy; quiroga has previously released an ep on cactus island titled ‘am i high?‘ and for this next release we have captured the full-on, full-length quiroga sound. ‘poladroid’ is always open, a sound of electronic funk firmly wedged in the modern day but with emphasis on nostalgic times and sonic journeys into outer space.
this is top-shelf music, both quirky and crunchy, ‘poladroid’ is a new language of musical colour, a spellbinding mix of robot-funk that is indestructible. the sound of summer in this cold winter. ‘poladroid’ is available for download now!
