always a good day when a new cactus island release lands here at smallfish and this one really perked my morning up considerably. a healthy 7 tracks are packed onto this cute little disc. musically, however, it's definitely veering away from 'cute'. more than anything this has a fragmented, classically twisted rhythmic style that (ever so slightly) brings to mind the work of autechre or early skam. intense programming gives you a superbly dislocated sense of syncopation and coupled with some delightfully deep achords and snippets of melodic content you've got yourself a slice of vintage electronica that panders to no-one. as i always say, it's hard for me to pick favourites on a label like cactus as the quality is so high, but this is definitely a good one and not to be missed if you're a fan of electronica. smallfish records
